12 Port of Exmouth in the 1980s

The Port of Exmouth is on the east side of the River Exe estuary where it drains into the sea. As at Teignmouth, always a tricky dock to enter and leave on the tides. Here are photos from the late 1980s up to the sad closing of the Dock on December 31st 1989. Modern flats and appartments have since been built around the Dock, with a small Marina where the bigger vessels used to berth. Cargoes came from Finland, Sweden, Iceland, Germany, including the Rhine, all the ARAG ports - Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp and Ghent - Spain and Portugal.
